The children days continue at the Women's World Championship |
 On the concluding day of the 2nd Round the SCC Galactica also hosted a children blitz tournament attended by 40 players from the Sochi Junior Olympic School #11.
As you remember, another group of players from the same school participated in the simul by the Moscow Chess Federation Deputy President Sergey Smagin on March 19.
Before the tournament the children took part in an excursion around the building.
It was a 9-round Swiss event. Alisa Demchenko collected 8 points and took the first place. Daniel Badalian was half a point short. Tigran Panosian finished third.
All participants received souvenirs from the organizers, and the three winners got memorable gifts from the Gazprom Center of Mountain Tourism. Its manager Svetlana Schelkun shared her impressions with our correspondent:
– This is the first time we have a chess tournament here. It is an honor for us to host such a prestigious tournament as the World Chess Championship. However, we have enough experience in organizing other big sports events – Olympic games, Paralympics, etc. We prepared for the chess championship very thoroughly, and hope the participants are enjoying it and they will return home with good memories.
We also never organized mass children chess events, but we do run an annual children synchronous swimming competition. We are happy to be selected for chess events as well.
Children can find many points of interest at SCC Galactica, for example, the knowledge center Umnikum, where we have various space suits, and one can conduct experiments in chemistry and physics. There is a 5D cinema and an aquapark with an open pool on the roof, where one can swim and enjoy the surrounding mountains covered with snow.
The children days at the Women's World Championship will be continued on March 25 with a chess master class for the school children.
